#PICKTORIAL 3 VS LUMINAR 2018 SOFTWARE#

First of all the best software to process Fuji RAW files is Iridient, hands down. Thanks for your tips as I am not sure which one I should buy.Īs it turns out I have been searching for a great Aperture DAM replacement and purchased each of these while "on sale" to try. At which point (if things don’t change with Luminar) I’ll probably jump to Exposure X5.Anyone could say which software performs better in terms of editing Fuji RAW files? Anyone of this 2 is able to deal with lossless RAW too?

I own Luminar, but it’s so bad on Windows (where I want to use it) that I keep using my old version of Capture one v10 till it breaks or I get a new camera. But sounds like it’s overkill for your needs, and it’s quiet expensive. it feels laggy next to Capture One or Exposure on a Mac, and it’s DAM has limited functionality - i.e., no keyword/metadata search.Ĭapture One is the safe bet from your favourites. While it can create folders on import, I’m not sure if that’s based on Exif data and definitely the options to configure it are pretty limited. A disaster on Windows, and fixing the windows version might limit their ability to fix Luminar’s spartan import functionality. Weak points are highlight recovery (on par with On1, ACDsee, Darktable etc, but a level below the big 3) and defringing. In terms of speed and stability it’s in the same class as LR and Capture One in my experience. In fact, its import function is pretty flexible, allowing creation of folders based on various criteria, it can insert metadata during import and apply presets in bulk on import. I have mine to only look at my ‘picstore’ folder, and to copy new images into that folder creating folders by exif date. And you’re not limited to just one, you can have several. So to change the ‘bookmark' from your pictures folder to somewhere else, you remove the bookmark for pictures and create your own from the ‘folders’ tool. No other app was doing this.Įxposure calls folders ‘bookmarks’. After creating a catalog it was still running at 300-400% cpu usage.

  • Exposure x4: only saw the photos in my Pictures folder, no option to view anything in my external HD.
  • Darktable: Crashes a lot, might be okay on Linux or Windows, but it sucks hard on the Mac.
  • That said it’s import function didn’t copy my videos and that’s an issue for me.
  • Luminar 3 is very responsive and has a nice UI that I liked.
  • If I had to pick one do-it-all app Capture One would be it. Eg: a searchable catalog and decent image editing. It’s missing a lot of features I’d like but don’t really need. Can't beat free, especially if it works just fine. + import from camera / sd-card to EXIF date folders + lightweight ~ maybe alternative to RawTherapee?

+ import from camera to catalog and backup folder no option to select folders on external HD Thanks all for the info, I've tried a few applications and here's my opinions so far:

I'm not a fan of Lightroom I've tried DarkTable and Digikam and they both crash hard on Mac OS X.

Plus I really don't like how it organizes my photos: in folders by import date, not EXIF date. Mac OS Photos is okay for my iPhone, but crashes a lot especially once the photo library inches towards 10k images. The remainder is adjusting white balance, highlights and shadows, and a few more tweaks here and there.Photo editing is not a priority for me I don't have much time. I don't edit much, of what's left after the initial cull 90% of my work is rotate and crop. Once I import the photos I need to quickly review them and do a first cull. I'd like to have the photos organized by EXIF date (/YYYY/MM/DD/) so I can easily copy them onto my NAS. I need something that will import photos either straight from camera or from SD cards and save them on my external hard drive.
